Meet the Team

Steve Buckley  

Steve BuckleySteve Buckley has been a community media activist since the early 1980s. He was a co-founder of the Community Media Association (CMA) in 1983 and Director of the CMA from 1991 to 2004. He was responsible at the CMA for strategic planning, political representation, fund–raising and leadership of the organisation through a critical period of policy reform. He has extensive social science research, financial planning, fund-raising, business planning and media policy know-how as well as practical media experience in broadcast and new media. Steve is currently the President of AMARC, the World. Association of Community Radio Broadcasters and brings an internationalist perspective to community media development. On a local level, Steve is a Board Member and founder of Commedia Sheffield, South Yorkshire's leading community media centre and home of FM and Internet community radio station “Sheffield Live”.

Jaqui Devereux 

JaquiJaqui is the Acting Director of the Community Media Association, which is the UK representative body for the Community Media sector and is committed to promoting access to the media for local people and communities. Prior to working for the CMA, Jaqui worked with homeless young people in Sheffield, promoting advocacy, participative working and engagement.



Nicky Edmonds

Nicky EdmondsNicky Edmonds has been involved with community media projects for over 20 years. Most recently as Deputy Director of CMA she developed, raised funds for and oversaw the development of several major projects, including the Commedia Millennium Awards, a grant-making scheme for community media production and the Showcase, a web-based archive of community media programming. She has led on CMA support for community radio pilot scheme and was involved in the CMA’s campaign for community radio licensing. Recently she has managed feasibility studies for community radio projects in Sheffield and Manchester, an extensive study for the CMA into sustainable models of community broadcasting and research for a community television station in Birmingham.

Bill Best

Bill BestBill Best is Technical Operations Manager of the Community Media Association and is currently on a part-time secondment to CM Solutions. Bill designed and now manages the CMA's Internet Media Service and has developed technical expertise across a wide range of Internet-based media platforms. With a background in computer network support, Bill understands how to find and communicate technical solutions. He is an enthusiast for free and open source software solutions but is at ease working on proprietary platforms as he is with Linux and other open source software.

Zoe Walton

Zoe WaltonZoe is a full-time Project Officer with CM Solutions. She has a background in both the visual and performing arts. Most recently she worked at the Open Performance Centre which offers performance arts training and events to arts professionals and to the community. She has managed three successful national tours for Point Blank Theatre Company and worked on a number of Theatre in Education projects in South Yorkshire. She has also worked as Production Co-ordinator for Disruptive Element Films. Zoe has a degree in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University.

Paul Steele

Paul SteelePaul Steele is the Learning & Skills Manager of the Community Media Association and Project Manager of the South Yorkshire Community Media Fund. Paul has a background in training and education working as an IT trainer for three years in both the commercial and public sector before moving into training management. Before joining the CMA, Paul worked as Training Manager for the Regen Centre in North Yorkshire and was involved in the groundbreaking Selby Coalfield Taskforce initiative which used innovative techniques to re-skill the workforce of 1,500 miners facing redundancy. Since joining the CMA Paul has taken over management of the Showcase, web-based community media archive along with all Learning & Skills based activity. Paul also represents the Community Media sector on the Associate Parliamentary Media Literacy Group (APMLG) along with the Skillset national TV and Radio skills panels.  

Jenny Douglas

Jenny DouglasJenny is a full-time Project Administrator for CMA. After graduating from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Accounting, Financial Management and Business Studies she decided that she would like to work in the voluntary/community sector. Before joining the CMA in April 2006 she worked for SOVA (Supporting Others through Volunteer Action) on an EQUAL funded project helping women who face discrimination gain access to traditional and non-traditional areas of work. As the Project Administrator for the South Yorkshire Community Media Fund, Jenny monitors the funded projects and is the first point of contact for any enquiries to the grant scheme.

Grenville Glossop 

Grenville GlossopGrenville has worked in IT support for the community & voluntary sector for over 7 years, originally for a lifelong learning organisation and now for the Community Media Association as a Technical Assistant.  Grenville supports the Technical Operations Manager with Turn up the Volume client delivery.
